“The rotation of potatoes, tribute rice and corn can generate economic benefits at least three times per piece of land,” said a villager from Taiping Village. Based on local conditions, the town has developed characteristic industries such as “order-oriented vegetables”, winter peaches, oil tea and industrial chili peppers.
In early 2024, the town introduced industrial chili peppers in Taiping Village and Hanggu Village. After one year of trial planting, it was found that industrial chili peppers not only grow well and have high yields, but also have high prices and good benefits. The enthusiasm of villagers in planting them has skyrocketed.
Now, the planting area in the whole town has reached 240 mu (16 hectares), and it’s expected that the yield per mu (0.067 hectares) can reach 2,000 kg, with a total income of about 1.2 million yuan.
After the frost falls, the tea seeds ripen. Oil tea seeds in Taiping Town are entering the golden period of picking. Villagers are busy harvesting them.
At present, the oil tea industry is being piloted in Chaqun Village and Jinxing Village in Taiping Town, with a planting area of over 1,000 mu (66.67 hectares). After 5 years of efforts, the oil tea trees have entered its peak production period. It is expected to produce 10,000 kilograms of tea oil this year, with an output value of more than 1 million yuan.
As of now, the town has planted 10,500 mu (700 hectares) of tea trees, 2,200 mu (146.67 hectares) of Baiyun tribute rice, 2,000 mu (133.33 hectares) of oil tea, 700 mu (46.67 hectares) of winter peaches, over 600 mu (40 hectares) of citrus trees, 240 mu (16 hectares) of industrial chili peppers and over 100 mu (6.67 hectares) of traditional Chinese herbs.
